When Twitter first came out, I disregarded it as a business tool due to already being inundated with Facebook, LinkedIn, Email Campaigns, blogging, and all the other operational duties of running a company.
But I soon realized (after a discussion with a good friend of mine, Fred Pennic that runs HIT Consultant Media) that Twitter could drive traffic and lots of it. Â By the way, if you are looking for an amazing media company that can propel your marketing to the next level, I recommend contacting them.
Google Analytics (Breakdown of inbound visitor traffic)
After a couple of months, we have over 2000 followers, which accounts for 17% (Twitter and t.co added together).
How do I Â manage all these tweets?
Tool 1:Â I use a few tools to help track the hundreds of people a day that want to chat with our company via Twitter. Â One tool that I like is Hootsuite. Â It allows me to listen in on all my social networks at once and respond quickly from one dashboard.
So how do Twitter Hashtags work?
From Twitter:
Using hashtags to categorize Tweets by keyword:
-
- People use the hashtag symbol # before a relevant keyword or phrase (no spaces) in their Tweet to categorize those Tweets and help them show more easily in Twitter Search.
-
- Clicking on a hashtagged word in any message shows you all other Tweets marked with that keyword.
-
- Hashtags can occur anywhere in the Tweet – at the beginning, middle, or end.
-
- Hashtagged words that become very popular are often Trending Topics.
Example: In the Tweet below, @eddie included the hashtag #FF. Users created this as shorthand for “Follow Friday,” a weekly tradition where users recommend others to follow on Twitter. You’ll see this on Fridays.
Hashtag Promotion
- Hashtags can promote you quickly to thousands of healthcare professionals wanting to read about a topic.
Here is a great list of hashtags and tweet-chats that I use every day. (see the complete list here)
